Children’s Dentistry

Dental care is an important part of maintaining oral health throughout your lifetime. What better way to kick that off to a good start than by bringing your child to a place where they can feel comfortable, safe, and cared for?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that every child have a dental home. A dental home is a dental practice where a child receives ongoing care so they can develop a relationship with their dental team. This familiarity will help that child to create positive associations with visiting the dentist, which can impact their willingness to seek care throughout their life.

So friendly to kids and parents. My son, who was so scared last time, was skipping into the office for his next appointment.

A lifetime of good oral health starts with the first visit.

At The Tooth Doc, putting patients at ease is our specialty.

Fear-Free Dentistry

Dr. Matz grew up visiting a dentist who still impacts the way he practices dentistry today. One of the key takeaways from that experience is that being a caring and friendly dentist makes a big impact on every patient, but especially the littlest patients.

The entire Tooth Doc team is skilled in working with children, and focuses on their ease and education about dental needs. The team is ready to give your child a happy experience.

Everyone is welcome.

Family Dental Practice

At The Tooth Doc, we’re a comprehensive, full-service dental practice. Even as your child grows, we are still an ideal choice for their dental care needs. Additionally, we have an orthodontist in our practice, so you won’t need to go somewhere new if your child needs orthodontic care.

And the best part? You can schedule your appointment at the same time as your child’s. No need to add a second appointment to your calendar.

Your child’s oral health care starts early.

One-Year-Old Evaluations

Every child should see a dentist for the first time by the age of one, or within six months of their first tooth coming in. By establishing care early, you’re helping your child to see that visiting the dentist is a normal part of life that has benefits to their health. By ensuring you and your child have a good visit, we’re helping your child connect positive feelings with the experience. We’re partners with you in ensuring future dental appointments are something your child will grow to look forward to.

At that first infant appointment, you can expect gentle care that puts your child at ease. What’s that? We’ll ask you to hold your baby while we perform an evaluation of their teeth, jaws, gums, and bite. This is the best way to keep your child feeling safe and comfortable while still performing a thorough evaluation. We’ll discuss ways you can care for your child’s oral health at home now and as they grow.

Lifetime Dental Care

Toddlers and preschoolers seeing the dentist for the first time or visiting a new dental office can be shy and cautious of a new environment and situation. We focus on putting them at ease and empowering them. We also never push a child by continuing an evaluation if they’re just not comfortable. The goal is to build positive feelings about going to the dentist. So sometimes this means pausing for a moment to redirect their attention and offer encouragement and affirmation for positive behavior.

There are a few pre-appointment things you can do to help their visit go smoothly. For example, avoid scheduling appointments during nap time or close to it, if possible. Make sure your child has recently had a snack prior to their appointment, because we’re all happier with a full belly. Read them a book about visiting the dentist prior to their visit, if possible. Or check out this video from Peppa Pig about visiting the dentist to help them feel more familiar with what will happen at their appointment.

For older children who are becoming acquainted with our office and dental team, we’re pros at putting patients at ease. We work to make sure your child is comfortable, whatever age or stage they’re in.
